Web Design: Common UX Roadblocks

All design agencies, just like the New Jersey Web Development team, aims to provide great user experience (UX) in every website project they tackle. They want people AND their clients to be satisfied with their design. But no matter how wonderful their template is, or how incredible the idea; there will be moments when they might commit mistakes. Although it looks small, it actually has a big impact on user experience.

Interruption/Delay Tactics

Companies have their own goals and motivations to help them reach their target. Selling is one of the top reasons businesses want to have a website. Since many people don't have the luxury of time nowadays, many make their purchases online.

However, whenever a website instantly forces a subscription or displays an ad; it interrupts the user's overall experience and could trigger an exit. Imagine finally landing on a useful page with the desired content – only to be frustrated because it is asking for a sign-up before gaining access. Delaying or interrupting a user shows them that they are not prioritized. There are other tasteful ways to display sponsored ads; while accounts can be created with optional menus on the sidebar.

Lack of Proper Accessibility
Web developers and designers should broaden their scope in terms of creating online profiles. While there are admittedly millions of smartphone and tablet users, there are still those who do not possess such devices or have older gadget models.

Web Platforms

Be sure that client sites can be viewable on almost all platforms – regardless of browser or OS.
  • Build designs that can apply to nearly everyone; including people with disabilities.
  • Internet speed should be considered too. There are still some regions where connectivity is slow or poor; so loading speeds and certain design elements should be tailored for these aspects.
  • Basic HTML and 'code-less' designs allow for easier readability on almost all browsers; plus mobile phones and tablets.
Screaming Woman404 Error Pages

There are plenty of ways to enhance an error page so it would be helpful to users – but a few developers and designers simply do not practice this.
For older or unkempt websites for example, there might be non-existential links or missing pages already. Although 404's are common, they can still of help to users:
  •  Add appropriate text besides the generic 404 code and error message (example: “This page no longer exists. What were you looking for?”).
  • Provide a search box so that people can easily enter in data.
  • Have a contact button available.
  • Link to other practical content such as web status checks, a back button, or a way to get back to the homepage.
Bottom Line

Aesthetics in web design is important – but UX should be above all else. Skilled web development services know how to strike a balance between beauty and function. The overall web design actually says a lot not only about the client, but also regarding the people behind it. At the end of the day, it's the users who will look at a site.
