Web Design Psychology: What's behind the Web Design?

There are only a chosen few website developers, offering web design services, that know the psychology of a web design. Opposite to what most people think, understanding the psychology of web deign isn't that hard to learn. It is actually easy to apply; even web design for smartphones is not that difficult to comprehend.

If you'll take substantial amount of time to learn about web page design psychology, you'll be able to reap the benefits in no time; which includes growth in visitor interaction, conversions and leads. In layman's term, there is a better chance of getting a client to avail of your service or product – which, is the main reason why you have put up an online business.

Utilize patterns that are familiar to users

Plus points if you have a unique web design that can attract potential customers, but there are elements in a web page that should automatically be seen by default – header, navigation bar, images, etc. The uniqueness of your site is only secondary. It will make your visitor stay glued for a long time, but that sense of familiarity can make your visitor be more comfortable. Your site should be user-friendly to avoid having high bounce rates.

Giving focus on every page

Some web designers fail to realize that each page should have a life of its own. What this means is, you should give focus on every page and it must have the necessary content and visual representation as support. Every visitor that will come to your site has distinct expectations. You need to either meet their expectations or exceed them. Avoid cramming everything in one page as it will only turn off your visitor.

Images must adhere to the content

A principle that most web design companies apply is having images that are related to the content. If the the choice of photos is poor, it can lead to visitors feeling lost on the message that a page is trying to convey. For example, you're reading a newspaper and the photos aren't properly positioned – pictures are not placed properly near their respective article. It defeats the purpose of having images to go along with the content.

Using color schemes that are relevant to your theme

Just like the content, the colors that you're going to use must be appropriate as it affects the perception of your visitors. Use the color green heavily if you're dealing with agriculture. If your site is related to food, use the colors green, red and orange. If you want to garner attention, use the colors yellow, black and red – the same colors you can see on warning signs. You have to get your visitors to be emotionally invested on your website, and the best way to do it is by using colors.

Never leave out the white spaces

Who said that white spaces are unnecessary? White is the type of color that can help your visitor relax his/her eyes after being bombarded with different colors. The abundance of colors can keep your visitors confused on which part to start, while having white spaces can keep them at bay. Give your visitors some room to breathe by incorporating these white spaces strategically.

  1. And what will be the conversion rate against an optimal length of a line? I mean that does the length of the content (you are writing for SEO) matters to get high traffic and back-links? I have noticed that some of the Web design companies are charging for every extra word other than the specified figure written in the agreement.
